Interior Department Releases Report on Coal Resources Under Federal Lands
The U.S. Department of the Interior has released a comprehensive report on coal resources beneath federally managed public lands, estimating 4.2 billion short tons of reported coal reserves and an additional 356 billion short tons of available resources. This report, part of the Genesis Mission initiative, aims to bolster American energy dominance and economic opportunity. Wyoming, with the largest coal production, hosts 14 of the 34 active mines on federal land. The report also highlights the need for further geological mapping in understudied areas like Alaska, which may contain significant coal resources.
