Virginia Awards Maritime Employers for Workforce Training Initiatives
Virginia has selected five maritime companies to receive funding for technical training through the state's Maritime & Nuclear Workforce Accelerator. The program, announced by Virginia Works, will reimburse employers for up to 80% of eligible training costs, with a cap of $100,000 per company. The funding aims to enhance the skills of workers in shipbuilding, ship repair, nuclear energy, and advanced manufacturing. Companies like Colonna's Shipyard and Fairlead will use the funds to train employees in areas such as welding, machining, and electrical systems. The initiative is part of a broader effort to support Virginia's maritime and nuclear industries by developing a skilled workforce.
