Charlotte Faces Persistent Drought Despite Recent Rainfall
Charlotte, North Carolina, continues to experience drought conditions despite recent above-average rainfall. According to WFAE, Charlotte Water implemented mandatory water restrictions on May 15, aiming to reduce water usage by 5% to 10%. As of last week, the city exceeded its target, achieving a reduction of over 5%. However, the drought persists, and restrictions remain in place, prohibiting non-essential activities such as filling swimming pools and operating ornamental fountains. Charlotte Water has issued 84 violations for restricted water use, with fines starting at $100 and increasing for repeat offenses. Additionally, 23 exceptions have been granted for critical needs, including health and safety concerns and essential business operations.
