Cuba Accuses United States of Causing Devastating Humanitarian Consequences Through Sanctions
Cuba has formally accused the United States of inflicting devastating humanitarian consequences through its economic sanctions and pressure on the country's foreign trade. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stated that U.S. threats, pressure, and blackmail are actively hindering Cuba's foreign trade. He further asserted that Washington has intensified its economic blockade by restricting energy supplies and imposing secondary sanctions. Cuban authorities contend that these measures are exacerbating critical shortages of fuel, food, and medicines across the island. Havana also alleges that the U.S. is pressuring foreign companies that maintain economic ties with Cuba, threatening them with secondary sanctions. This situation has led to prolonged power outages, affecting public transport, healthcare, agriculture, and water supply, plunging Cuba into one of its most severe economic and energy crises in recent decades.
