PG&E Warns of Potential Power Shutoffs in Northern California Amid Fire Weather Risk
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) has issued a warning about possible power shutoffs in eight Northern California counties due to elevated wildfire risks. The utility's forecast indicates that dry, gusty conditions could necessitate public safety power shutoffs from Wednesday through Friday. Counties potentially affected include Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Napa, Sonoma, Sutter, Tehama, and Yolo. The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for parts of the Sacramento Valley, effective from 11:00 AM Wednesday to 5:00 PM Thursday, citing strong winds and low humidity. Winds are expected to reach 15-25 mph, with gusts of 30-45 mph in the Sacramento Valley and up to 50-60 mph over North Bay peaks like Mount St. Helena. Overnight temperatures in affected areas may remain above 70°F (21°C), exacerbating heat-related challenges for residents.
