Foreclosure Rates Surge 42% in the U.S., Delaware Leads with Highest Rate
Foreclosure activity in the United States has seen a significant increase, with a 42% rise in completed foreclosures in April compared to the same period last year. According to data from property data firm ATTOM, 42,430 U.S. properties had some form of foreclosure filing, which includes default notices, scheduled auctions, or bank repossessions, marking an 18% increase from the previous year. Delaware recorded the highest foreclosure rate, with one in every 1,739 housing units affected, followed by South Carolina and Florida. The increase in foreclosure starts, up 12% annually to 28,414, indicates a growing financial strain on homeowners due to high borrowing costs and persistent housing affordability issues.
