Guardian Series Highlights Challenges and Resilience in Coastal Towns
The Guardian's year-long series, 'Against the Tide,' explored the lives of young people in England's coastal towns, focusing on their challenges and resilience. The series was inspired by research indicating high rates of undiagnosed mental health conditions among youth in these areas. Through collaboration with photographer Polly Braden, the project aimed to amplify the voices of 16- to 25-year-olds, highlighting their creativity and community spirit. The series resulted in significant impacts, including parliamentary engagement and local council actions, while challenging negative stereotypes about coastal communities.
