USDOT and DHS Expand Investigations into CDL School Fraud to Enhance Road Safety
The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has intensified its efforts to combat fraud in commercial driver's license (CDL) training schools by partnering with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This collaboration aims to investigate schools suspected of violating federal training requirements. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), under USDOT, has identified approximately 75 entry-level driver training schools involved in fraudulent activities such as improper driver certifications and falsified training records. As part of this initiative, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) will assist FMCSA in probing these suspected fraudulent training providers. This action follows previous enforcement measures, including the removal of nearly 10,000 CDL training schools from FMCSA's Training Provider Registry since December 2025. In February 2026, notices of proposed removal were issued to over 550 training schools found in violation of FMCSA safety standards.
