RAAF and US Navy Collaborate on Advanced Jammer Pods for EA-18G Growlers
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has received its first delivery of new jammer pods designed for the Boeing EA-18G Growlers. These pods, known as the Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band (NGJ-MB), are part of a joint program between the RAAF and the United States Navy (USN), the only other operator of the EA-18G. The delivery of these pods, designated AN/ALQ-249, began in September 2025 and will continue through 2026. The RAAF currently operates 12 EA-18G aircraft, and the Australian Department of Defence plans to keep them in service until 2040. The NGJ-MB is designed to counter various threats, including radar, communications, and data links, enhancing the electronic warfare capabilities of the EA-18G.
