US Imposes New Sanctions on Iran Over Fraudulent Technology Acquisition
The United States has announced new sanctions targeting an Iranian network accused of impersonating and defrauding US businesses to acquire technology for Iran's military. According to the US State Department, the network, led by Iran-based Ali Majd Sepehr, used fake websites and intermediaries in Dubai to deceive US technology companies. The network aimed to obtain advanced equipment, such as spectrum analyzers and security detection devices, for Iran's defense sector. In response, the US Treasury Department has updated its guidelines on payments to Iran, emphasizing that transactions with Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) could lead to sanctions. The PGSA, which has been designated under counterterrorism authorities, is accused of supporting Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
