Community Peacemaker Teams Calls for Peace Sunday Amidst Rising Authoritarianism
Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) is urging congregations to participate in a 'Peace Sunday' on November 8, 2026. CPT highlights concerns in the United States regarding actions by ICE, which they describe as 'tyrannising communities' through 'kidnapping, imprisoning, and deporting loved ones.' The organization also points to the erosion of rights for various groups, including migrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, women, and people with disabilities, alongside the dismantling of public services. In Canada, CPT notes the introduction of oppressive bills restricting migration, increasing surveillance and incarceration, and fast-tracking resource extraction projects with little regard for Indigenous rights or environmental impact. CPT believes the Christian church has a crucial role in challenging these developments and promoting peace.
