The Federal Reserve Bank of New York recently held its U.S. Treasury Market Conference, where discussions focused on the Open Market Trading Desk's strategy for maintaining ample reserves within the banking system. A key topic was the approach to Reserve Management Purchases (RMPs) of Treasury bills, which are used to increase System Open Market Account (SOMA) portfolio holdings. The New York Fed's decisions on RMP size are guided by assessments of reserve demand, forecasts for reserve supply, and current and expected money market conditions.
