EU-US Trade Deal Nears Ratification Amid Revised Tariff Policies by the White House
The ratification of a trade pact between the United States and the European Union is approaching after President Trump revised U.S. duties on key import categories. The White House announced changes to tariffs on metals and pharmaceuticals, imposing duties on certain name-brand drugs at rates up to 100%. The EU, along with Switzerland, Japan, and South Korea, will see a 15% tariff on pharma exports to the U.S., while the UK faces a 10% duty. The EU deal imposes 15% tariffs on European products, replacing Trump's earlier threat of 30% tariffs. Europe agreed to reduce tariffs on American products to zero and to purchase $750 billion in energy from the U.S. and invest $600 billion into the U.S. economy.
