Wildfires Force Evacuations in Simi Valley, California
A wildfire, named the Sandy Fire, has prompted evacuation orders for over 17,000 residents in Simi Valley, California, located approximately 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Los Angeles. The fire, which began on Monday, has already consumed more than 2 square miles of dry brush and destroyed at least one home, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. Initially driven by gusts exceeding 30 mph (48 km/h), the fire's spread slowed overnight due to calmer winds, allowing firefighters to make progress.
