Rwanda Engages in Preliminary Talks with EU States to Host Migrant Facilities
Rwanda has entered into preliminary discussions with several European Union member states regarding the potential establishment of facilities to host migrants transferred from those countries. This development was reported by two European Parliament lawmakers, Tineke Strik and Anna Strolenberg, following their visit to Kigali. Rwandan officials have indicated an openness to the idea, though discussions are still in their early stages, and no formal agreements have been reached. The lawmakers were shown two facilities, including a hotel, that were originally prepared under Britain's now-abandoned Rwanda deportation scheme, which could potentially be utilized for housing migrants from Europe.
