Australian Surfer Alejo Santinaque Survives Shark Attack with Minor Injuries
Alejo Santinaque, a 20-year-old surfer, experienced a harrowing shark attack while surfing at a beach off Red Cliff Road in Yuraygir on the NSW Mid North Coast. On May 30, while waiting for a wave, Santinaque felt a sudden impact and a strong pull on his foot, realizing a shark had bitten him. Reacting quickly, he kicked the shark, which became entangled in his leash, allowing him to swim to safety. Despite the intense situation, Santinaque remained calm and focused on reaching the shore. His friends applied a tourniquet to his injured foot before paramedics arrived. Fortunately, the shark missed his arteries, resulting in only damaged tendons. Santinaque expressed no resentment towards the shark, acknowledging the ocean as its natural habitat and emphasizing the inherent risks of ocean activities.
