Clyburn and Jeffries Prioritize Affordability Over Trump Impeachment for House Democrats
Representative Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., stated that impeaching President Trump should not be the primary focus for Democrats if they gain control of the House in the upcoming November elections. Speaking on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Clyburn emphasized that the party’s main objective should be to make housing, education, energy, and healthcare affordable and accessible for all citizens, arguing that impeachment would not achieve these goals. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., echoed this sentiment, indicating that Democrats are not ruling out impeachment but are also not committing to it, stating that decisions would be made by the chairs of the House Oversight and Judiciary committees based on facts, law, and the U.S. Constitution. These remarks come as Representative Al Green, D-Texas, recently filed articles of impeachment against President Trump, citing concerns about threats to democracy and constitutional rights, including actions by ICE and CBP.
