Psychotherapy Field Grapples with AI Integration: Opportunities, Challenges, and Ethical Guidelines
The field of psychotherapy is actively exploring the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, recognizing both their potential benefits and significant challenges. Psychologists are already using AI for tasks such as drafting progress notes, screening literature, generating case conceptualizations, and rehearsing clinical skills with simulated patients. However, a report from the Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy (APA Division 29) emphasizes that while AI can augment psychological work, it cannot replace human judgment, relationships, and accountability.
