President Zelensky Engages in Talks with Syrian Leadership Amid Middle East Tensions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Syria on April 5, 2026, as part of a diplomatic tour in the Middle East. This visit follows a series of meetings with leaders in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the UAE, amid ongoing tensions due to the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. In Damascus, Zelensky met with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa to discuss regional security, economic cooperation, and infrastructure projects. The discussions also covered food security and post-war recovery, as well as the ongoing conflict involving Russia and Ukraine. This visit marks the first leader-level engagement between Ukraine and Syria since diplomatic relations were restored in September 2025.
