New Study Identifies Effective Exercise Combinations for Lowering Blood Pressure
Recent research published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine has identified that a combination of aerobic exercise, resistance training, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) can significantly reduce blood pressure. The study reviewed data from 31 randomized controlled trials involving over 1,345 participants. It found that combined aerobic and resistance training was linked with an average drop of 6.18 mmHg in systolic blood pressure over 24 hours. Aerobic exercise alone resulted in a 4.73 mmHg drop, while HIIT led to a 5.71 mmHg reduction. The study highlights the importance of exercise intensity in managing blood pressure, with experts recommending at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise five times a week, along with strength training twice a week.
