Tourist Stabbed in Unprovoked Attack at Midtown McDonald's
A 19-year-old Australian tourist was stabbed multiple times in the torso during an unprovoked attack inside a Midtown McDonald's in New York City. The incident occurred early Monday morning at approximately 2 a.m. at the McDonald's located at 490 8th Ave. Police from the Midtown South Precinct responded to a report of an assault in progress and found the victim with stab wounds. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported the injured tourist to Bellevue Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition and expected to recover. Authorities stated that the victim was eating when the attack took place. Following the incident, police apprehended 25-year-old Juan Mercedes of Florida, who has since been taken into custody for questioning and charged with assault. According to NYPD data, felony assaults in the Midtown South Precinct are down by 5%, but across the entire south of Manhattan, they have increased by 4%.
