East Hampton Residents Face Larger Restaurant Plan After Rejecting Smaller Proposal
East Hampton residents successfully opposed a scaled-down plan for a casual Italian eatery in Montauk, only to now face the original, larger proposal. Hotelier Marley Dominguez, owner of the Offshore Montauk hotel, had initially received approval from the East Hampton Town Planning Board for a three-story, 8,250-square-foot building. Following resident concerns, Dominguez offered a revised plan for a smaller, omakase-style restaurant. However, the planning board rejected this revised, smaller proposal last week. Consequently, Dominguez has announced he will revert to his original, larger plan, which has already secured planning board approval. Residents had accused Dominguez of being 'deceptive' and feared the venue would become a 'rowdy day and nightclub,' leading to a petition against the scaled-down version. The original plan, now back on the table, has more than double the occupancy capacity of the rejected smaller version.
