U.S. Leads Africa's Largest Military Exercise to Strengthen Security Ties
The United States is leading Africa's largest military exercise, Exercise African Lion 2026, involving over 5,000 troops from more than 40 countries. The exercise, organized by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), is taking place from April 27 to May 8 across Morocco, Ghana, Senegal, and Tunisia. The initiative aims to enhance interoperability and readiness to respond to crises and contingencies in Africa and globally. This comes as the U.S. seeks to reassert its presence on the continent amid strained relations with several African governments. The exercise includes joint operations, logistics support, and advanced data-sharing, reflecting a focus on multi-domain warfare.
