Polish Developer Creates App to Detect Nearby Meta Smart Glasses via Bluetooth
A 30-year-old Polish software developer, Pawel Szydlowski, has created an iPhone app named 'Zuckoff' that can detect nearby Meta smart glasses by reading their Bluetooth signals. The app, which has garnered approximately 5,000 users within a month of its launch, estimates the distance of the smart glasses. Szydlowski developed the app by purchasing several models of Meta smart glasses, cataloging their unique Bluetooth fingerprints, and then writing software to match these fingerprints with signals detected by a phone. The app is free, with a paid tier offering background notifications. Szydlowski's motivation stems from the belief that individuals have a right to know when they are being recorded, addressing a privacy gap where Meta's smart glasses, despite having a recording light, can be covertly used.
