Florida Governor DeSantis Announces Testing of Air Taxis in Central Florida by 2026
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced that the state will begin testing electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOLs) in Central Florida by the end of 2026. This initiative is part of Florida's broader strategy to integrate emerging transportation technologies. The eVTOLs, which can take off and land vertically, are expected to provide an alternative mode of transportation between major cities like Tampa and Orlando, bypassing traditional airports and runways. The testing will occur at the SunTrax facility in Auburndale, where autonomous vehicles are also being tested. Florida has been selected by the Federal Aviation Administration to participate in an Advanced Air Mobility integration pilot program, which will explore how these technologies can be incorporated into everyday transportation systems.
