British Virgin Islands Emerge as Luxury Charter Destination with Expanding Yacht Fleet
The British Virgin Islands (BVI) are experiencing a transformation from a region known for bareboat charters to a luxury charter destination. This shift is marked by the arrival of large crewed catamarans and motor yachts from the Mediterranean and the Bahamas. My BVI Charter, operated by DMA Yachting, reports that the 2026-2027 season is expected to be the strongest yet, with a significant increase in the number of luxury yachts available. The fleet now includes vessels like the Sunreef 60 and the 80-foot Sunreef, which offer high-end services with larger crews. This development is part of a broader trend where yachts are repositioning from other regions to the BVI for the winter season, attracted by the area's protected cruising grounds and improved marine infrastructure.
