An Ozone Action Day has been issued for Houston, Texas, due to elevated ozone levels expected on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. According to the Houston Chronicle, the combination of hot temperatures and stagnant air conditions is contributing to poor air quality in the region. Southerly winds are forecast to return gradually on Thursday, which may help alleviate some of the air quality concerns. However, areas north of Houston could still experience lingering issues until stronger southeasterly winds arrive late Thursday into Friday. High temperatures on Thursday are expected to reach around 90°F (32°C), with heat index values potentially peaking in the lower 90s. Breezy conditions on Friday may slightly lower temperatures but will likely improve air quality by mixing the lower atmosphere.
