US-Saudi Nuclear Agreement Sparks Controversy Over Uranium Enrichment
The United States and Saudi Arabia have signed a nuclear agreement after more than two decades of negotiations. The deal, which involves the U.S. and Westinghouse assisting Saudi Arabia in developing a civilian nuclear program, has sparked controversy due to concerns over uranium enrichment. Critics, including former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, warn that the agreement could lead to a regional nuclear arms race. The deal allows for the potential construction of a uranium enrichment facility, contingent on a joint study's findings. However, Saudi Arabia has not signed the IAEA's additional protocol, limiting inspection capabilities.
