Space Force Awards $615 Million in Contracts for Satellite Development
The U.S. Space Force has awarded contracts worth $615 million to three companies as part of the Space-Based Airborne Moving Target Indicator (SB-AMTI) program. This initiative aims to accelerate the development of emerging systems and leverage commercial technology to enhance satellite capabilities. Rocket Lab and STR are among the companies selected, while the third vendor remains unnamed due to operational security concerns. These contracts are the second task order under the SB-AMTI program, following a $4.16 billion deal with SpaceX in May. The new contracts are intended to expand the vendor pool and capabilities, ensuring the Space Force is not reliant on a single technical solution.
