Big Rock Fire Forces Evacuations as Blaze Expands to 2,400 Acres
The Big Rock Fire in Idaho has rapidly expanded to over 2,400 acres with zero containment as of late Saturday night. The fire, which began on Friday evening, has been fueled by extreme weather conditions including high temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds. The U.S. Wildland Fire Service reports that the fire has spread both southwest towards Cress Creek and northeast into Idaho Endowment lands. Evacuation orders have been issued for areas north of Heise, extending to Lyons Creek Road and east to 7000 East. Residents in these areas have been advised to evacuate immediately. The American Red Cross has set up an evacuation shelter at South Fork Elementary School in Rexburg, providing free services such as meals, water, and recovery support. Firefighters are working to protect threatened structures, although two minor structures have already been destroyed.
