Steyer highlighted his business background and his decision to leave the business world to support progressive causes. He avoided directly engaging with Ocasio-Cortez's assertion that billionaires accumulate wealth through exploitation, instead emphasizing the need for wealth redistribution and progressive taxation. Steyer acknowledged that some Democrats might be hesitant to support a billionaire for governor but argued that Californians seek a candidate who will challenge corporate power.
