Florida Doctor Indicted for Manslaughter After Fatal Surgical Error
A Florida doctor, Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky, has been indicted for second-degree manslaughter following a surgical error that resulted in a patient's death. The incident occurred on August 21, 2024, when Dr. Shaknovsky allegedly removed a patient's liver instead of the spleen during surgery, leading to severe blood loss and the patient's death. The Walton County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with state and medical authorities, conducted a thorough investigation, which led to the indictment announced by the Office of the State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit. Dr. Shaknovsky was arrested in Miramar Beach and is currently held at the Walton County Jail, awaiting his first court appearance.
