Etowah County Couple Awarded $88 Million in Landmark Hernia Mesh Verdict
A federal jury has awarded an Alabama couple $88 million in a landmark verdict against Covidien, a subsidiary of Medtronic, over its Symbotex hernia mesh product. The jury found that Covidien failed to adequately warn physicians about the risks associated with the mesh, which led to significant health complications for Larry Patterson, who received the implant in 2017. The verdict, delivered in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, is the largest compensatory damages award in the history of U.S. mesh litigation. The case is part of a larger multidistrict litigation involving over 2,500 lawsuits.
