Study Suggests Daily Multivitamin May Enhance Functional Health in Older Adults
A preliminary study presented at the NUTRITION 2026 meeting of the American Society for Nutrition indicates that daily multivitamin-mineral supplementation could modestly improve cardiovascular-related functional health in older adults. The research, part of the COcoa Supplement Multivitamins Outcomes Study (COSMOS), involved over 16,000 participants aged 60 and older. It found that those taking a daily multivitamin reported better functional health compared to those on a placebo. The study highlighted improvements in symptom burden and physical functioning, suggesting that multivitamins may help maintain day-to-day independence as people age. However, the findings are considered preliminary as they have not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal.
