Southern California Prepares for Potential Flooding Due to Hurricane Genevieve
Southern California coastal communities are bracing for potential flooding as Hurricane Genevieve approaches offshore. The National Weather Service has issued several advisories, including a high surf advisory and a coastal flood advisory, warning of waves reaching between seven and nine feet. Over the weekend, lifeguards rescued thousands from dangerous rip currents. In Long Beach, city officials are fortifying the shoreline with berms and plywood to prevent spillover from the surf. Marine Safety Battalion Chief Cameron Abel noted that crews are working overnight to secure the berms, as waves have already flattened some of the protective measures.
