Merck Animal Health Publishes Landmark Research on Gilvetmab for Canine Cancer Treatment
Merck Animal Health, a division of Merck & Co., Inc., Rahway, N.J., USA, has announced the publication of two peer-reviewed studies evaluating the safety and efficacy of gilvetmab. Gilvetmab is a first-in-class caninized anti–programmed cell death protein 1 (anti–PD-1) monoclonal antibody designed for dogs with spontaneous malignancies. The studies, published in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, provide clinical evidence on gilvetmab's objective response rates, disease control, safety parameters, and immunological dynamics in canine oral and cutaneous melanoma and mast cell tumor (MCT). Gilvetmab works by binding to canine PD-1, disrupting inhibitory signaling, and reactivating anti-tumor immune responses. The product is conditionally approved by the USDA for treating dogs with melanoma or mast cell tumor and is currently available only in the United States.
