Napa Students Collaborate on AI Tool to Enhance Stroke Care in Ambulances
A group of students in Napa, California, is contributing to the development of an AI-powered tool designed to improve stroke care in ambulances. The project, led by the nonprofit organization xSpring, aims to create a virtual neurologist that can perform critical neurological assessments during patient transport. The device, developed under the NeuroSpring project, uses a sensor-embedded headset to monitor eye movement, limb weakness, facial symmetry, and speech abnormalities. This technology is intended to complement paramedic work by providing real-time diagnostic support, potentially increasing the number of stroke patients who receive timely treatment. The initiative is in collaboration with American Medical Response, a major ambulance service provider, and is preparing for a pilot program in Napa County.
