Antofagasta CEO Iván Arriagada Reappointed as ICMM Chairperson, Ensuring Continuity in Mining Standards
Iván Arriagada, CEO of the Chile-based mining company Antofagasta, has been reappointed as the chairperson of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM). This appointment is effective immediately and will last for a two-year term. Arriagada succeeds Tom Palmer, CEO of Newmont, who has served as the ICMM chairperson since October 2024 and is set to retire from Newmont at the end of the year. Arriagada previously held the ICMM chairperson role from 2022 to 2024, and his return is expected to bring continuity and experience to the organization. The ICMM, governed by a council of CEOs from its 26 member companies, focuses on industry performance and sustainability initiatives, including the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management and the Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative (CMSI).
