IDEM Hosts Public Hearing on Schahfer Generating Station Permit Amid Pollution Concerns
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) conducted an online public hearing to discuss proposed changes to the air permit for the R.M. Schahfer Generating Station in Wheatfield, Indiana. The hearing attracted over 15 residents who expressed concerns about potential increases in air pollution and its impact on local health and the environment. The permit changes are part of a proposal by Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) to construct a new gas plant to power Amazon's data centers. Residents and activists voiced fears about increased emissions and the environmental impact on the community and local wildlife.
