State Historical Society of North Dakota Receives NEH Grant for Dakota Territory Records Preservation
The State Historical Society of North Dakota, in partnership with the University of South Dakota, has been awarded a $350,000 National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) 'Rediscovering Our Revolutionary Tradition' grant. This funding is specifically designated to preserve and enhance access to historical records from the Dakota Territory. The State Historical Society of North Dakota will receive an $86,899 subaward to rehouse, arrange, and describe these records, which include documents from the territorial governor, secretary, and other offices, as well as photographs of the legislature. The records will be digitized at the University of South Dakota and subsequently made available to the public through the Digital Library of South Dakota, ensuring open and free access.
