Cadaver Dogs Detect Possible Human Remains in Portland's Centennial Mills Warehouse Rubble
In Portland, Oregon, cadaver dogs have indicated the presence of possible human remains in the rubble of the Centennial Mills warehouse, which was severely damaged by a fire on August 2, 2026. According to Portland Fire & Rescue, the dogs conducted two sweeps of the site and both times signaled the potential discovery of human remains. This has led officials to operate under the assumption that at least one person may have perished in the fire. The Portland Permitting & Development department has issued a Notification of Dangerous Structure and Order to Demolish to the property owner. The city, along with the property owner, is collaborating with a structural engineer and demolition contractor to safely dismantle the building. This demolition is crucial for ensuring the safety of investigators and allowing a thorough search for any bodies that may be trapped within the debris.
