MassMutual Center to Undergo $93 Million Upgrade to Enhance Competitiveness and Visitor Experience
The MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, is set to receive a significant $93 million in state funding for a five-year upgrade project aimed at modernizing the venue and improving its competitiveness. Sean Dolan, the general manager of the facility, indicated that the need for these improvements became evident through comparisons with competing venues in Hartford, Providence, and Worcester, where the MassMutual Center was falling behind in terms of size and amenities. The upgrades will address deferred maintenance, enhance the convention center side with more breakout spaces, and significantly improve the arena. Planned arena enhancements include a new jumbotron and scoreboard, more premium seating, digital signage, and a new sound system. These changes are designed to make the facility more attractive for concerts and other events, which have often been unprofitable due to capacity issues and limited revenue streams from concessions and premium seating.
