Medicare's New AI-Driven Payment Model Aims to Transform Healthcare Outcomes
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has launched a new program called ACCESS, which stands for Advancing Chronic Care with Effective, Scalable Solutions. This initiative is designed to test a payment model that rewards healthcare providers based on patient health outcomes rather than the volume of services provided. The program, which goes live on July 5, includes 150 participants, such as Pair Team, a healthcare company focused on AI-driven medical care. ACCESS aims to cover conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and depression, offering predictable payments to organizations that meet specific health goals. This marks a significant shift from traditional Medicare reimbursement models, which are based on time spent with clinicians.
