Sixth Floor Museum Receives Federal Grant to Digitize Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photojournalist Bob Jackson's Collection
The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza has been awarded a federal grant exceeding $200,000 to preserve and digitize over 20,000 photographs and related materials from Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Bob Jackson. This two-year Museums for America grant, provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, will fund the research, cataloging, and digitization of the Bob Jackson Collection. The collection documents Dallas history from 1960 to 1978, including significant events such as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Among the collection's highlights is Jackson's Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph of Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald on November 24, 1963. The museum also possesses the original camera negative and the 35mm Nikon camera used to capture this iconic image. Jackson, a former Dallas Times Herald photographer, recently donated this extensive collection, marking it as the museum's most substantial photography donation to date.
