Brendan Farrington, a veteran news reporter who covered Florida politics for The Associated Press for over 25 years, has died at the age of 60. Farrington passed away on Friday at his home in Tallahassee after a brief illness, as confirmed by Steve Schale, a close family friend. Based in the state capital, Farrington was widely recognized for his extensive network of sources, fairness, and kind demeanor. He was also an avid sports fan, reportedly having visited every major league ballpark. Many journalists considered him a mentor and a friend, noting his ability to earn the trust of politicians from both sides of the aisle. Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush paid tribute to Farrington on X, describing him as an 'old school journalist' and a 'real pro.' Farrington began his career in 1988 at The Patriot Ledger in Quincy, Massachusetts, before joining the AP in Miami in the late 1990s and transferring to Tallahassee in 2001.
