NPR Remembers Journalist David Gilkey on 10th Anniversary of His Death
NPR is commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of its award-winning photojournalist David Gilkey, who was killed in Afghanistan alongside NPR interpreter Zaihullah Tamanna. Gilkey was on assignment as an embedded journalist with the Afghan National Army when their convoy was ambushed in Helmand province. This tragic event marked the only instance of NPR staff being killed in the line of duty. NPR's veteran Pentagon reporter, Tom Bowman, joined host Anthony Brooks on 'Here & Now' to remember Gilkey's contributions and the circumstances surrounding his death.
