China's Military Invests in AI Amidst U.S. Technological Lead
China's military is selectively investing in artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance its capabilities, particularly in areas like drone swarms and naval operations. The Chinese navy has integrated AI into its guided-missile frigate, the Qinzhou, to improve air defense. Despite these advancements, analysts note that China remains cautious and acknowledges a technological gap with the United States. The U.S. maintains a significant lead in military AI, supported by extensive data centers and export controls on advanced semiconductors to China. China's AI strategy focuses on intelligentized warfare, with applications in space, cyberspace, and autonomous systems.
