San Diego Lawmakers Advocate for Federal Action on IVF Access and Fertility Treatment Costs
Rep. Mike Levin has introduced the Fertility Cost Relief Act, which aims to expand access to fertility treatments by allowing individuals to withdraw up to $20,000 from their retirement accounts without incurring the usual 10% tax penalty. This legislation follows a similar effort by Rep. Sara Jacobs to increase IVF access for military families. Despite existing state laws in California that mandate fertility insurance coverage, many families still face significant out-of-pocket expenses. The proposed federal measures seek to alleviate some of these financial burdens, though it remains uncertain if they will fully address the high costs associated with fertility treatments.
