Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have utilized AI to analyze over 400,000 Reddit posts, identifying patient-reported symptoms associated with GLP-1 drugs like semaglutide and tirzepatide. These symptoms, which include reproductive issues such as irregular menstrual cycles and temperature-related complaints like chills and hot flashes, may not be fully captured in clinical trials or regulatory documents. The study, published in Nature Health, highlights the potential of social media as a source of information about drug side effects, although the researchers caution that their findings are not causal. The analysis suggests that these symptoms are worth further investigation, as they are clearly on patients' minds.
