Massive Heat Dome Triggers Severe Storms in the US Northeast
A significant heat dome is currently affecting the southeastern and central United States, causing sweltering temperatures and severe weather conditions. The heat dome, which stretches from the Rockies to the East Coast, has pushed temperatures above 100°F (37.8°C) in states such as Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Combined with high humidity, the heat index has reached as high as 110°F (43.3°C) in some areas. This weather system is also contributing to severe storms and potential flooding in the Northeast and Great Lakes regions. The storms are expected to bring heavy rainfall, with some areas likely to receive 2 to 3 inches of rain. The heat dome is also causing overnight temperatures to remain 10 to 15 degrees above average, with some locations experiencing lows 20 degrees above normal.
